讲座题目：Surgical Robots Help Females Break the Career Glass Ceiling: Evidence from da Vinci Adoption

摘要：We study whether skill-biased technology can reduce gender barriers within an elite high-skill occupation. Exploiting staggered adoption of the da Vinci robotic surgical system across Chinese hospitals, we estimate its effects on the gender composition of surgical teams. Robot adoption raises the female share of surgeons by 4-5 percentage points and the probability of a female chief surgeon by 40 percentage points, with promotion effects appearing before overall representation effects. The mechanism operates through a quality-and-complexity channel rather than workload reallocation: female surgeons' case shares remain unchanged, while they shift toward higher-grade procedures and their patients experience significant reductions in 30-day readmission rates following adoption. These results suggest that technology can reshape comparative advantage inside high-skill professions, not merely redirect workers across them.

主讲人简介：

潘聿航，北京大学全球健康发展研究院助理教授。他2015年本科毕业于北京师范大学，2021年于香港科技大学取得博士学位。加入北大之前，他曾于香港大学经管学院担任博士后研究员。他的主要研究领域为环境经济学、健康经济学、以及发展经济学，着重于使用因果推断（应用微观计量）的方法研究环境污染、政策制定、气候变化对于健康与社会福利的影响。他主持国家自然科学基金，研究获教育部人文社科成果奖，论文发表于Science、Journal of Environmental Economics and Management，Nature Sustainability等经济学和科学类期刊。
